Me.
Hi. It’s Catherine. The therapist of Momentum Counselling.
Common questions:
Who are you?
First, I’m a mom of two amazing kids. Now both teenagers! I have been working in the healing / helping profession for over 20 years and I also work in corporate Canada. I practiced as a social worker in BC and am now a registered counsellor and psychotherapist. I am from a small community in north central Saskatchewan called Duck Lake. Like 500 people small. I am married. I am a sister and an auntie. I am Metis and proudly a citizen of Metis Nation BC.
What is your style?
I am an integrative therapist which means I select techniques from multiple modalities to best suit the clients I serve. I taylor therapy to the needs of each person. I administer what feels like the right approach based on the presenting problem, goals, beliefs, culture, history, etc. I see the partnership with my clients, known as the therapeutic alliance, as the most crucial ingredient in treatment. I am a fan of narrative therapy, integrated family systems, compassionate inquiry, Rogerian and solution focused.
What’s your speciality?
I consider myself to be a generalist, seeing a wide variety of clients and needs, but my specialty is actually sex and intimacy. This is an area that spoke to me in training and remains an area of great interest. Healing sex and intimacy issues is profound work.
Who should see a therapist and when?
It all depends. I am a big fan of therapy, having spent more than half my life in it myself. Therapy is not just beneficial for the big challenges that destabilize us, it is helpful as a tool of self discovery and understanding. Learning how and why we react the way we do is powerful and can help shape our relationships – with ourselves and others.
What’s your issue?
Ha! Not enough space in this post to get into them all. Let’s just say, like all humans I’ve got my own shit to deal with. Some trauma, ongoing recovery from disordered eating, perfectionism. And my own therapy will be life long 😎.
